Wicker updated for fit-PC2

November 12th, 2009

Today (er, late last night) we publicly released the latest version of Wicker, our Ubuntu-based operating system that runs on every RedPost/Sign. This version is now compatible with theĀ fit-PC2 and includes the following updates: 8.04 security updates (we’re still on 8.04 as that’s what the fit-PC2 supports) re-worked kernel for compatability with fit-PC2, including SMP [...]

Video!

October 22nd, 2008

Warning: This is a total geek post, a lot of you “normal” RedPost/Blog readers aren’t going to make much sense of this. But essentially, what it all means is, 4 days after promised (following by formula for how to predict how long something will take to complete), you can now play video on your RedPost/Sign! [...]

Wicker moves to Ubuntu 8.04/Firefox 3

July 16th, 2008

I just uploaded a new version of Wicker, our open source operating system that runs on all RedPost/Signs, last night. Big changes to the underlying OS, including: upgrading from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 upgrading to Firefox 3 It’s still a bit buggy, but stable enough for non-critical use and testing. And some minor tweaks: updated [...]

Startup Mode

July 15th, 2008

Startup mode, in many senses, is perpetual (it’s my career). In another sense, it’s measured by how much Linux OS development (read: I’m not a true hacker, maybe something like a 10% hacker) I do. Someday, I won’t do any. Then I’ll know that RedPost isn’t in startup mode anymore.

Sign(beta) updated…2 steps forward, 1 step back

June 23rd, 2008

First, the 2 steps forward: Friday we started shipping our updated Signbeta. We had some problems with the first hardware release…all of which have been fixed. Our non-beta hardware comes out this fall…2 year warranty, industrial-grade, high-volume ready, same price point…I can’t wait! Updates to the hardware: New, high efficiency, cooler, lower-power power supply internal [...]

New & Improved: Flash (almost), MediaRSS

June 13th, 2008

With the latest release of Wicker, RedPost now supports Flash, almost. The problem is, Adobe doesn’t allow distribution of Flash with any digital signage software without paying hefty licensing fees. The open source alternative, Gnash, while decent, doesn’t work well with Youtube, which we want to support. But don’t worry, we’re working on a workaround, [...]
