The end of the Revolution…

February 25th, 2010

…will be when, at Digital Signage Expo, all signs such as the below will actually be digital. I’m just saying, there’s nothing as simple, quick to install, and cheap as paper. Note that the arrows on these signs swivel for maximum flexibility.

The Revolution: Less BS, Part II

February 25th, 2010

Here at Digital Signage Expo there’s a lot of talk about revolution. You see it on banners, brochures and of course on digital signs. But for the most part, besides being a bit bigger, there’s not too much revolutionary stuff on display. Some new (largely unavailable) display technology. Some more advanced technology (more evolutionary). Some [...]

The internets sigh a deep breath of relief

February 3rd, 2010

At last, it’s happening. This is all over the Internet today, a message from Google to the world:
In order to continue to improve our products and deliver more sophisticated features and performance, we are harnessing some of the latest improvements in web browser technology.  This includes faster JavaScript processing and new standards like HTML5.  As [...]

No more LCDs?

January 12th, 2010

LCD technology has been the work horse of the digital sign industry. Reliable, vibrant and in mass quantities cheap. But it’s made of glass, prone to breaking, has to be square and flat, uses lots of power and is incredibly expensive in really large sizes (think $60k for a 100″ display) and die after about [...]

The Internet: Just another medium?

January 4th, 2010

The following is an exchange via Facebook messaging between myself and Shirley Showalter that I thought was blog-worthy. Anyone else care to chime in?

Shocking statistic

November 11th, 2009

I was at an all-day planning meeting today along with 200 or so other community leaders to launch “Horizon 2.0“, a new phase of the Horizon Project which was completed in 2003. It’s a great plan, but the devil’s in the implementation. Some good speakers, including the former mayor of Indianapolis, Bart Peterson; Bob Jorth, [...]

Economic Recovery

November 4th, 2009

From an excellent article by David Leonhardt in the NY Times, emphasis mine (hat tip: The Daily Dish):
Either way, the job market will still be in terrible shape. The unemployment rate, at 9.8 percent in September, could conceivably hit 10 percent for the first time since 1983. When that happens, some economists are bound to [...]

Indiana Community Health Information Network

October 12th, 2009

Do you like that 5 word 44 character name? It is a bit long. That aside, RedPost is in Indy today at the annual meeting of the Indiana Private Health Care Association. Don Yost (that’s him in the photo below) is heading up this initiative, based on his work at the Maple City Health Care [...]

Emergence II

October 6th, 2009

I posted a couple weeks ago about emergence, a phenomenon best defined as collective action that is greater than any of the individual parts (think a school of fish or flock of birds: there’s no leader, yet they all move in the same direction and are better defended from predators that way).
This is along those [...]

Buckminster Fuller

September 30th, 2009

I recently finished a book about called Bucky Works which is a fascinating introduction into the life and ideas of Buckminster Fuller, who was roughly 100 years ahead of his time. Ideas about sustainability, design and approach that apply to pretty much any industry and technology — and are just now gaining traction. Here’s the [...]
