“The ‘gold rush’ mentality”

Digital Signage Universe posted a great op-ed piece (rare for them as they tend to stay out of the stormy waters of opinion-journalism) yesterday titled “Grabbing the Digital Signage ‘Bull’ by the Horns.” They referenced my rant from last Friday. Here’s a key paragraph:

The “gold rush” mentality that has taken over the digital signage business is not a free license to cast aside the basic rules of principle and ethics. While most companies in the digital signage industry are doing great work, and should be recognized for their contribution in growing this space, there are a few “bad actors” within the industry that have left a bad taste in the mouths of some clients, and in turn have caused damage to the industry.

My rant also elicited several good comments and an unhappy couple emails in my inbox. I did not mean to attack anyone personally with my post. Pay-to-play is common in the tech industry and many others, I’m sure. In the end, however, if we confuse, frustrate or anger the customer, we all lose.
