Monday Tidbits

A couple tidbits from the past couple days:

  • Indiana Democratic Convention: I attended the convention Saturday in Indy…turns out I was on the ballot for district 3. Ha. I guess I checked a box on the delegate app that I wanted to run as a delegate. The former mayor of Ft. Wayne, Graham Richard, beat me out, however. Overall, it was fairly well organized, but…yeah…fairly chaotic. I got to meet Jill Long Thompson (the dem candidate for governor), or at least, hear her speak and chat with one of her handlers. I think I like her, not sure though. She was talking about turning around the economy…and…I mean…there’s not too much you can do at a state level when the entire economy is recessing. But whatever, politics is politics. That’s why I’m in business — because you don’t have to play the politics game…
  • Last week I drove from Goshen to Chicago to Indy to Bloomington back to Goshen. About 600 miles total…just a little over one tank of gas. I love my car.
  • Indiana dropped from 29th to 33rd in the State Technology and Science Index, released by the Milken Institute. We improved on R&D inputs and stayed the same as far as our work force level, but dropped significantly in “risk capital and entrepreneurial infrastructure” and “technology concentration and dynamism.” Hmm. With all the new investment in the state, I would have thought we’d improve.
  • Firefox 3: I love it. I’m back to using Firefox instead of Safari. It’s snappy, the interface is much improved, and its got some nice new features. I love how open source software just gets better with time. FF3 is becoming a real platform…hmm…someone could even maybe build a technology company around it….hmmm…..
