Celebrity and a new car
Last weekend was the 24/7 theatre festival at New World Arts here in Goshen. I was on the poster as well as (without my permission) on the cover of the program, along with the line “excuse me while I whip this out.” I didn’t make it to the show, but apparently it was pretty good with a dose of controversy, depending on who you ask. Nothing that would be a problem in Chicago, but small town America isn’t as forgiving.
In other non-RedPost news, my very generous cousin, Jason, drove me up to Holland yesterday to pick up my new car! I hadn’t realized how much of my identity was tied to having a car, it’s been a bit rougher of a month than I had thought, but now I’m the proud owner of a 2000 VW Jetta TDI.
The best part: it runs on diesel, so I (should) get 40-50 miles per gallon. I haven’t measured it yet, so I’m not sure the exact MPG. AND there’s a B20 biodiesel fill-up station right here in Goshen (the Midwest has the most of them compared to the rest of the country) — that’s a 20% blend of biodiesel to regular diesel. Which means my car will run cleaner and use less oil.
As an added bonus, I wanted you all to experience my favorite part of my new car: the sweet, diesel engine sound. Here it is:
