RedPost/Recycle: An Amazing Response
Since launching RedPost/Recycle two weeks ago, thru 2 articles in the local papers, we’ve had an incredible response. About 30 people have dropped items off and we’ve also talked to the local Waste Management agency and ADEC (annon-profit that helps find work for people with disabilities) who are exploring processing electronics locally, which would be a great thing.
We are also figuring out if we can get some help from a high school student or two to clean up the computers that are still useful, install Linux on them, and give them out to families who can’t afford to buy their own. The last piece of the puzzle would be providing the family with low-cost broadband, but there may be the possibility to work something out with a local broadband provider…
It always amazes me how one thing leads to another…I’ve also made several connections with regional development groups that may be able to help RedPost in other ways through the press we’ve gotten from RedPost/Recycle.
Oh, and we’re going to be getting $.60/pound of computer cable from the local scrap yard, so we should be able to at least recover our costs on this project. Someone dropped off a whole garbage can full of cables yesterday…
