Leopard the OS, not the animal
I was at the Apple Store in Chicago this weekend and despite not planning on it, had to pick up a copy of Leopard, aka Mac OS 10.5 (Apple’s latest and maybe greatest operating system, for those of you stuck in the sand).
Overall, it’s noticeably faster and the tweaks to iCal and Mail are nice. The transparent menu bar is ridiculous as is the new dock thingy that’s supposed to tell you when an application is open (I think it’s supposed to resemble a glowing LED) — it’s almost entirely difficult to tell when it’s there or not.
One small change Apple made — the rounded corners of the screen that’ve been a part of the Mac for 15 years or so are now square (see the upper left of the image) and the bottom of menus are round. I wonder what design discussions prompted these subtle changes…
