New Orleans: Windows is a dead-end digital signage OS

I took this picture at the New Orleans airport. You can’t see the error message because my camera’s resolution is so low, but it’s some standard Windows error message.

This isn’t the first time Windows has pulled this nifty trick, either. Or the second. Or really, anything new since at least 1998, if not earlier.

Of course, Corktop was throwing Javascript messages at the Corktop launch (see photo below), but we’ve since fixed that. And it’s not in production yet, it’s in Beta, so we’re allowed to do that.

I wrote, or rather moaned, on this subject recently - http://www.teeko.org/blog/2007/08/06/digital-signage-stability/ - well recently according to my slow blog posting record. It is just so unfortunate that when targetting internal comms for a large customer they really really fight against anything other than Windows - at least over here.

Disclaimer: I work for a Windows-based DS company (and yes the recent rumours that MS is on the verge of releasing a product in this segment worries me).
