RedPost/Kit Contest: And the winner is…

From John Mishler, Master Sculptor:

I have chosen entry #3 submitted by Anthony Showalter of echoing green.

I spent time last night again going over all the entries and I am glad that I did. At first I didn’t realize that entry # 3 was to be mounted to an table which makes the piece 3-D. I had thought that the Kit would be mounted on an wall, so this was an pleasant surprise. It will take a little engineering to run the wires and mount the piece to an table, but that often is an challenging part of doing sculpture. Once a sculpture is made how does one make it stand up. I also like how the green arcs relate to my sculpture and echoing green’s logo. I especially like how the outermost arc will be kinetic. It will allow the viewer that comes into the office and views the piece to physically interact with the Kit besides just enjoying looking at it. This RedPost/Kit will give out information on its monitor and be an interesting sculpture.

I want to thank all the people that entered this contest.  All of the entries were interesting visually and that is one reason it took me a while to choose an winner.

Thanks,
John Mishler

Congrats to Anthony and the folks at Echoing Green! And thanks to everyone who participated…I’m looking forward to seeing the finished piece…

  • I just wanted to say thanks to Eric and the RedPost team for the great contest idea, and thanks to John Mishlerf for picking our entry! The Echoing Green staff is thrilled and can't wait to see the final piece.

  • I've already got some flack for who the winner was, so I wanted to issue a disclaimer. DISCLAIMER: I had nothing to do with who John choose as a winner. I know Anthony as well as some of the other entrants, but did not influence the winner-decision-making-process in any way. John called me at one point and asked if he should consider exposure of the winning sculpture, as in, where it will sit and how many people will see it, as a factor in his decision. I said no, not at all.
