People still read magazines
Apparently (thanks Danny for the link), people still read magazines. And not just people, but all generations:
The consulting and advisory firm found that every generation — from young Millennials (ages 13 to 24) to Generation X (25 to 41) to Baby Boomers (42 to 60) and older Matures (61 to 75) — enjoys reading magazines. Almost three-fourths of all consumers choose to read them even though they can find the same information online. There is also a greater receptivity overall to print ads compared with internet ads, the firm found.
User-generated content
Additionally, about 51% of U.S. consumers are interested in watching and reading content created by others, not just stuff crafted by the big Hollywood companies and TV networks.
Interesting, so not only do people like reading things NOT online, but they like stuff that’s authentic and not marketing-filled fluff. I think it just goes to show that nowadays more than ever before, you have to meet people where they are, you can’t push stuff at them and hope it sticks.
We all walk around with built-in content filters that throw away stuff we perceive as fluff or dumb or irrelevant (for me, it’s TV ads, website banner ads, junk mail, press release “articles”, I can go on). Any kind of communication medium has to meet it’s viewers/users where they are, not where the marketers want them to be.
