Outdoor billboards don’t cause accidents…maybe
According to MediaPost (through Digital Signage Today):
AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS ARE UNRELATED TO digital billboards, according to a new study from Tantala Associates, which may serve to allay fears that eye-catching displays distract drivers. Outdoor advertisers are promoting the results of the study in the hope that it may lead to more acceptance and speedier implementation of digital signage systems around the country.
I’ve blogged about outdoor digital billboards before. The study was sponsored by the Foundation for Outdoor Advertising Research and Education, run by the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, an obviously biased group. However, it does add some important data to the conversation about whether or not outdoor billboards are unsafe.
