Question: Blogging ethics…should I give away free RedPost/Kits for review?

?

I haven’t asked a question like this on my blog before, so I’m not sure what the response will be. But here goes. Several bloggers have contacted me asking for a RedPost/Kit to review, which I’m more than happy to provide them with. One of them has asked me if he can keep it, free of charge. Now, I totally understand wanting a RedPost/Kit for free…they’re just so sweet.

I offered the blogger the same discount I’m giving everyone else ($50 off until 6/30/07 with coupon code roboticlywelded). I also asked for a credit card number, just in case he/she decided to run to Mexico with my beloved Kit without paying for it. I’m not in a financial position to be giving away a ton of Kits, either. And I want to be fair and consistent with all requests for review units…and I want to respect the ethical code (such as it is) of the blogging world

What do you think? What should I do?

  • Put a couple aside to send out for review, but make it clear that you want the unit back (so you can send to someone else to review). You get to sell them at discount later and in the meantime you have units for review that you can send out when the bloggers send them back.

If their blog is old enough I can't see them risking the damage to reputation by not returning kit.
